Geography of Vald
The continent of Vald can be divided in two parts, based on climatological circumstances that exist due to a mountain range extending from the north-west to the south-east.
The southwestern desert
The southwestern part consists of steppe and desert and is populated principally by nomadic tribes with sometimes agressive tendencies towards strangers. And the word 'stranger' is interpreted rather broadly, so violent tribal wars are no rarity in this regio. The area is considered one entity in international affairs (Saakhkhaa), although governmental organisation is almost non-existent.
In the far west of the region however some small principalities managed to organise themselves with help of overseas nations: these are E-Banghene, Kharphuusi, I-Hud, Rototoa and the island of Byryanuata. The island nation of Tektertyavatu has an exclave on the northern coast of E-Banghene. The inhabitants of these nations trade with nations outside Vald and are each other's rivals, which often leads to armed conflict.
Off the south eastern coast of Saakhkhaa there is the island nation of Mkhakh. The inhabitants consider this country as part of Saakhkhaa, but it functions autonomously in such a way that the international community considers it an independent nation.

The more fertile northeast
- Main Article: History of the Hanad empire
To the north and the east of the mountain range a more fertile part of Vald can be found. The larger part hereof is part of the empire of Hanad, which is the largest nation on the continent. Originally the Hanad people lived on the highland of the same name in the central south of the continent. Due to lack of rain, they explorer more fertile areas and expanded in northern direction. Many other people fled from the advancing Hanad and at one point, they had conquered the whole continent apart from the southwestern desert and the far west.
Nowadays, the Hanad empire has shrunk a bit, giving room to other nations.
