Chain of events

Although the cause of the plague is unknown, it was said to have been caused by an industrial accident in Wembury, Commonia. The authorities tried to contain the outbreak, but the soldiers were eventually overcome and spread to other parts of Commonia. Due to miscommunication between factions, the virus spread rapidly and began to spread to other nations via human trafficking, refugees and the black market organ trade. Although initial outbreaks are successful contained and covered up, a mass invasion in East Uletha have brought the plague to public attention.

As the infection spreads, the Pretanic Faction State closed off its borders, while the Pretanic government and the royal government fled to other safe zones when zombies overrun St. Richards. The Federal States did little to prepare because of its overconfidence in its ability to suppress any threat, and a highly marketed placebo vaccine creates a false sense of security.

After a journalist reveals that Phalanx does nothing to prevent zombification, a period known as the "Great Panic" begins. UL137 and PFS launched a war against each other when Antigoan authorities tried to stem the flow of Mazan refugees. A high-profile battle in Stanton failed to defend against the zombies. Modern weapons and tactics prove ineffective against zombies, as the enemy has no self-preservation instincts, feels no pain, and can only be stopped if shot through the head. The unprepared and demoralized soldiers are routed on live television. Other countries like Gobrassanya suffer similarly disastrous defeats, and human civilization teeters on the brink of collapse. Desperate refugees fled to other safe zones such as Khaiwoon and other islands in the Asperic.

Eventually, an emergency AN meeting in Khaiwoon helped develop a controversial plan which involves the establishment of small sanctuaries, leaving large groups of survivors abandoned in special zones as human baits in order to distract the undead and allowing those within the main safe zone time to regroup and recuperate. Many countries then adopt this plan, although there were many criticisms of the plan. Some nations also organised evacuations of its citizens to colder regions, such as FSA to Neo Delta and Ingerland to Norðurland, because zombies freeze solid in severe cold. However, due to little preparedness in living up north or south, about 12 million died, while some survivors resort to cannibalism.

About three years into the official start of the war, some nations started recovery efforts to develop the safe zones, while some scientists in Lonowai are trying to find a vaccine to help soldiers battle the undead. In the FSA, the government train the civilian population for the war effort and restore order; the people with skills such as carpentry and construction find themselves more valuable than people with managerial skills. Private gardens are cultivated for food, and civilian neighbourhood patrols are formed.

In an Assembly of Nations general assembly five years later, there were discussions on retaking the infested areas; some nations wanted for the vaccine to develop first to take over, while a few nations like the FSA insisted that the soldiers can take on without the vaccine. Determined to lead by example, the FSA military reinvents itself to meet the specific strategic requirements of fighting the undead: using semi-automatic, high-power rifles and volley firing, focusing on headshots and slow, steady rates of fire in “reinforced squares”. The military, backed by a resurgent FSA wartime economy, begins the three-year-long process of retaking the contiguous FSA and Astrasia from both the undead swarms as well as groups of hostile human survivors. Encouraged by the FSA's success in defeating the zombies, many countries around the globe start to retake infested areas.

Although millions of zombies are still active mainly on the ocean floor or on snow line islands after the war, AN forces are underway to eliminate them. The success of a vaccine also helped boost morale among survivors and guard against the plague. Ten years after the war, a federation known as the Asperic Ring was formed while Telkhug Ekdun offers military assistance to the federation. Commonia became a democracy as the war helped reunite the people and form a united government. Mergany becomes the world's thriving economy as its technology helped in the redevelopment of the world. Khaiwoon becomes one of the world's most populated city while much of Mahhal and Rhododactylia remains infected.
