Rationale

Based on the idea that a draw of random numbers is not a realistic process to get the results of the games, a mix between random and deterministic process is proposed for the FICT Games 2017. A purely random number draw would keep all the participant teams and athletes with the same probability of winning the games, which is not realistic. In the real world, a small and poor country has not the same probability of winning all the games than a big and rich country.

The proposed process is based on a pre-defined “strength” (0 to 40) of each team or athlete for a specific modality in addition to the random number drawn (1 to 60). Values are summed to get the final result. The strength contributes with 40%, the luck with 60%.

Since the concept of realism can vary from one creator to another, the strength and participation in each modality is left to be decided by each one for their own creations, according to their own criteria. It is to be defined relatively to the other (FICT) competitors and not in an absolute perspective. The following status is proposed:

  • High - above the average of the competitors (40)
  • Mid - within the average of competitors (20)
  • Low - below the average of competitors (0)
  • N/A - does not participate on the modality

Proposed Table of Games for FICT Games 2017

The table below shows the sports proposed to be included in the Games, depending on the number of competitors (minimum of 8). The idea is to have more individual sports than team sports, considering that this would be more realistic for competitor countries that are, in general, small. Eventual changes can be proposed. Participants should decide the statuses of their countries relatively to each sport/modality.

Score/Result Setting

Results for Individual Competitions

This process would be applied to athletics, cycling, sailing, swimming and triathlon.

Random number drawn per athlete/competition = 1 to 60

The result is obtained adding 40 point to “High” competitors and 20 points to “Mid” competitors to the random number drawn. In case of a tie, new random numbers will be drawn for the tied competitors and the process repeated for them.

Results for Football

For each game, one random number is drawn for each team. To these numbers, the following values are added (based on the relative strength):

  • If A is in the same level of B: no addition to the random numbers of A and B
  • If A is higher than B: 20 points to A
  • If A is much higher than B (A is “High”, and B is “Low”): 40 points to A

The score is defined per team:

Points Goals
1 to 25 0
26 to 45 1
46 to 65 2
66 to 80 3
81 to 95 4
96 to 100 5

Results for Volleyball

For each game, one random number is drawn for each team. To these numbers, the following values are added (based on the relative strength):

  • If A is in the same level of B: no addition to the random numbers of A and B
  • If A is higher than B: 20 points to A
  • If A is much higher than B (A is “High”, and B is “Low”): 40 points to A

In case of a tie, two new numbers are drawn, one for each team and the process above is repeated.

The score is defined by the difference between points of A and B:

Defference Score
1 to 40 3-2
41 to 70 3-1
above 70 3-0
