Geography
Maldaria borders Benjiland in the east and the north and the Atlantic Ocean in the west and the south. The landscape varies from flat to sloping and even mountainous in the Pes Moutains. The Western plains are a plain in the west of the 'mainland' with relatively few rain. The east and the north is characterised by a sloping landscape with mainly farmland. The original vegetation was grassy, which is called velt in Maldarian English. Especially the areas with large height differences are forestry. This mainly applies the Pes Mountains and the Northern Range. In both areas are roads with sharp bends very common. Particular parts of these ranges are sparsely populated. The Western Plains are sparsely populated as well. De three biggest cities are concentrated in the middle of the country.
Geology
Maldaria and Benjiland were once one island. It has long been attached to what is now Schotland. With the continental drift, during the Cretaceous period, the island moved to its current position. Because of a fault running closely to the island, it is divided into three larger and some smaller islands. Volcanism ain't no uncommon phenomenon in Maldaria. Still two sleeping volcanoes remain on the main island. Other volcanoes are extincted by the time. One active volcano, the Blacktop Mountain, and four sleeping volcanoes are located on other smaller islands.
Climate
The climate of Maldaria has heavily been influenced by the ocean. The climate of Maldaria can be described as a moderate marine climate. The south west has a moderate Mediterranean climate. Maldaria has mild dry summers and mild wet winters. In the climate system of Köppen it can be described with Cfb. In the south west the climate can be described with Csb. Although the country is not large there are climate differences. For example, the east has more rain than the west and the south more sunshine than the north. At the end of the summer the Atlantic Ocean can bring some storms to Maldaria, when the sea water has been warmed. Often the wind blows from the east, which can bring rain. Often after the Pes Mountain the is less rainfall the before the mountain range. A southern wind often means warm weather and/or a anticyclone. Northern wind means chilly and dry weather. A western wind mean warm weather with sometimes rain. Maldaria has an average of 1963 sunshine hours a year and an average of 974 mm rainfall a year.
