The Prehistory

From several archeological sources we know that the first inhabitants of the Solwes Island arrived in 500 BC. Most of them were Celtic or Germanic immigrants who fled from there home countries because of wars, diseases and famines. The most important remains are the small Celtic village near Buterwijlen and the fishing port south of Meserlost (both in Solwesia). The island soon became famous because of the gigantic tin and copper reserves in the centre of the island. Athough Solwesia never has been conquered by the Roman Empire, has the island been highly influenced by the Roman civilization, the inhabitants started to use the Latin alphabet and Christianity became the most important religion. Between 400 and 530 AD some tribes began to conquer their neigbours, and after a while the island was divided in seven 'Shires', ruled by warlords. These shires were:

-Alfane

-Awel

-Borgelann

-Gondda

-Lehte

-Skirse

-Sudersgyp

These shires were formed by tribal leaders who conquered their neighbour tribes, step by step a small empire was formed this way. Although the shires were completely independent from eachother, there were still a lot of similarities between the kingdoms. All seven of them had the same language, religion, culture and also they often had the same laws and traditions. There's not much known about the time before the Orvatian Wars, because there's only a very small number of written sources that has been left from that period. We do know there were a lot of tensions between the christian leaders of the shires and the followers of the mysterious Cultus of the godess 'Lidana' or Ledone', there were a lot of prosecutions. The most important Solwesian cities were often located on the coast and nearby trade routes like rivers. A few examples are: Pittyn (Putte), Tana (Wolegarde), Ryge (Reig, Tyllo (Tullo) and Leheym (Loheim).
