Rules to determine results and scores
The purpose of these rules is to establish a way to determine the scores and the final classification of the games not simply based on a random selection, but taking into account different "strengths" and "potentials" of each participant, to be more realistic. So, although the randomly drawn numbers are part of the process, the final classification will be also dependent of a previous ranking. In other words, although some surprises can occur in the final ranking, it's not likely that the final ranking will be the previous one 'upside down'.
The initial ranking was proposed to be obtained considering three factors, a) the region of the globe where the country is located, b) the size (population) of the country, and c) the level of interest/development of that sport in each country. In the case of male football/soccer, the initial ranking was calculating based on 2012 [FIFA ranking] for (real) countries with population below 10 million inhabitants.
a) The region of the globe was established based on the real 2012 ranking (for small countries only). So, currently the regions where the FICT countries are located, are ranked (with the average number of points):
- South America (678 points)
- North Europe (618 points)
- West Europe (593 points)
- Africa (340 points)
- Asia/Oceania (147 points)
b) The population was taking into account because, for the same conditions, a bigger country is likely to be better ranked, based on the same source.
c) Finally, there is a subjective factor, the interest factor (IF). This factor varies from 0 (no interest) to 1 (100% developed, totally passionate by that particular sport). Each real participant should establish/agree with this factor for his/her created country.
Based on these criteria, the initial ranking was calculated for FICT countries:
- 593 points - Voskia/WE (IF: 0.6)
- 409 points - Yutyrama/SA (IF: 0.4)
- 274 points - Kaupelan/AS/OC (IF: 0.8)
- 264 points - Tarmorya/AF (IF: 0.4)
- 227 points - Adzhatia/NE (IF: 0.3)
- 220 points - Île de Romanhe/AF (IF: 0.4)
- 203 points - Yukland/NE (IF: 0.3)
- 162 points - Guelphia/AS/OC (IF: 0.5)
After this first ranking process, for the subsequent games, the ranking will be based on the previous edition.
Score Determination Process
The result of each match is determined based on a randomly selected number (between 00 and 99), weighted as described below. The idea is to use numbers drawn from a website, such as this. Based on the ranking described above, a game of Team A versus Team B can be:
Team A in the same rank of Team B - In this case, both teams can be in the top, in the middle or in the low rank. If the random number is between 00 to 29, Team A (the one on the left) wins. If between 30 and 69, there is a tie. If between 70 and 99, Team B wins.
Team A better ranked than Team B - In this case, Team A can either be in the top and Team B in the middle, or Team A is in the middle and Team B is in the lower. If the number is between 00 to 39, Team A wins. If between 40 and 79, a tie. If it is between 80 and 99, Team B wins.
Team A much better ranked than Team B - In this case, Team A can only be in the top rank and Team B in the low rank. If the number is between 00 and 59, Team A wins. If between 60 and 89, a tie. If it is between 90 and 99, Team B wins.
The score of the match is also based on the selected number, given by a table shared with the participants.
In case of tie in a playoff match, new numbers must be selected until one of the teams wins.
The final ranking of the First FICT Games was:
