Climate of Pannonia

Jump to: navigation, search

Pannonia has a continental climate, with hot summers with low overall humidity levels but frequent rainshowers and mildly cold snowy winters. Average annual temperature is 8.9 °C. Average high temperature in the summer is 22 to 26 °C and average low temperature in the winter is −5 to −9 °C. The average yearly rainfall is approximately 700 mm.

According to the Köppen classification, most of Pannonia has a temperate continental climate (Dfb). The highland has a cool continental climate (Dfc). The south has a warm continental climate (Dfa).

The area around Lake Banat (Banatersee) enjoys a reputation for a Mediterranean climate, but in reality it is only slightly warmer than the rest of the country (Köppen: Dfa). However, during winter the lake helps to maintain a higher temperature in the surrounding region (since water releases heat energy more slowly than air).
