Bulletin d´Île de Romanhe 31
◀ (March 2014) Ilya Roman government resigns. ▶
(Port de Boiguehenneuc). Hardly a week before the start of the 53d conference of the AGL, the government of our country resigned. The cooperation between the three parties in the government has been troubled since the summer recess in January, when the nationalistic party FNIR refused to meet the requirements of the other two parties, URIR (liberal ) and FKR (peoples party), for large savings on the national budget. Due to the fact that there seemed no solution in sight in this case, prime-minister Keztil-Surt decided finally to resign. It is still unclear if the president will decide to call for new elections, but it is probably more likely that the two remaining parties URIR and FKR will form a new government together, eventually with the support of independent members of parliament or possibly the socialistic party FS. Together both parties still have a small majority of 34 seats in the parliament.
The cooperation between the three parties has lasted less then three years and already from the beginning troubles arose between them. Even the question about the appointment of the prime-minister became infected. Finally this was solved by a compromise; first Guimarc Bonamy (FNIR) was appointed as prime-minister but it was decided that he would resign in 2013 after which he would switch place with the candidate of URIR, Guillaume Keztil-Surt. The three party coalition was formed after hard political pressure from president Faroz-Zaran who after the elections in 2011 demanded that his party FNIR would take part in the new government. Despite all problems within the government, the cooperation lasted until after the football championship of the AGL, all parties found this status project too important for our country to put at stake by a government crisis. But only three months after the final of this championship, the three parties started quarreling about savings in the budget and this time it also resulted in the resignation of the government. Even the government before this one managed to govern only two years. The political situation on Île de Romanhe seems to have become much more unstable during the last decade, but it can be questioned if this is a bad thing for the democracy in the country. This lack of stability has in reality everything to do with the fact that the other political parties in the parliament have become much bigger and thus have gained more influence in Ilya Roman politics. The nationalistic party FNIR possessed since the country became independent in 1983, continuously the absolute majority in the parliament during the first two decades and ruled the country more or less as an one-party state. After the elections of 2005 though, FNIR lost its majority and by that even government power and the party had to adapt to the role of a more normal political party. This was (and still is) difficult to accept for the party and thus also for the incumbent president Aristide Faroz-Zaran, and even more for the former president François Sirkit Sept (both of them from the nationalistic party).
53d AGL-conference; Hélène Sarche-Kezt new managing-director of the MIE-institute.
(Port de Boiguehenneuc) On the 53d conference of the AGL that was held last Saturday, resigning minister of foreign affairs, Hélène Sarche-Kezt, was by a large majority chosen as the new managing-director of the MIE-institute. Mrs Sarche-Kezt is the successor of mrs Thea Eldorat (Insulantis) who had held this position since 2010. The Monoghan Institute for Environment, named after the former Miisan secretary-general Dimitri Monoghan and with it headquarters placed in Turangi, the capital of the Mii-islands, was founded in 2006 to take over some of the tasks from the Marckonian Mård-institute in order to do research about the situation of the environment in the member states of the AGL and has to report about this every year. In reality however, this has not happened in many years, due to the chaotic situation on the institute. It will now be the difficult task of mrs Sarche-Kezt to change all this and although her predecessor already has done much to change the situation (for example one third of the staff was fired and the institute was temporary moved to Insulantis), much work is still left. On the meeting also the new secretary-general for the AEGU, the economic organisation of the AGL, was chosen. Resigning secretary-general, Kiela A. Taherw (Cilogia) had held this function since 2006 and was not available for a third period. In stead the meeting voted for Dawyd Kone (Issel), and although the Ilya Roman delegation chose for her own candidate, Mervine Kergas Vaour, the election of Kone is seen as a very good choice. On the meeting the delegations also discussed the new status of (neighbouring) Insulantis and the situation in other member states. Next meeting of the AGL will be held in august in Voskia.
